If the cost of adding solar or a battery has been the thing holding you back, the NSW Government’s Home Energy Saver Program is worth a look. It’s a $557 million initiative from the NSW Government offering zero-interest loans and, for some households, upfront discounts to help cover the cost of home energy upgrades.
What the loan covers
Eligible households with a combined taxable income of up to $210,000 can access a zero-interest loan of up to $15,000, repaid over ten years. The loan can go towards rooftop solar, a home battery, insulation, a reverse-cycle air conditioner, a switchboard upgrade, ceiling fans, or draught-proofing. Renters can also apply, with their landlord’s permission.
Extra discounts for lower-income households
On top of the loan, the program includes targeted discounts of up to $4,000 for households earning under $80,000 a year, or holding an eligible concession card. If you think you might qualify for both, the general guidance is to apply for the discount first, then use a loan to cover whatever’s left.
How to apply
Applications go through the NSW Government directly at energy.nsw.gov.au/home-energy-saver. Once you’ve got a quote from us for your solar and battery system, we can help make sure your application has everything it needs on the technical side.
Why it matters who installs your system
Whenever government money is involved in solar and battery upgrades, it pays to use an installer who’s independently held to a consumer protection standard, not just accredited to install the panels. Innovate Electrical and Solar is a registered signatory to the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC), the industry code that sets standards around honest marketing, clear contracts, workmanship and complaint handling for solar and battery retailers. You can look up approved sellers and read about what the code covers at newenergytech.org.au.
